A young housewife was found dead inside an underground water reservoir at Gudaraghat under Shah Ali thana in the city early Monday. The victim was identified as Bristi, 22, wife of Mahiuddin, a resident of the area. The family hailed from Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj district.
Abdul Hakim, a sub-inspector of the police station, said Bristi, daughter of Mohsin, used to live with her in-laws in a two-storey building owned by Abul Kalam Shikder.
Quoting family sources, police said Bristi had been missing since June 26 and her body was found floating in the water reservoir of the house around 12:15 am.
Informed by locals, police recovered Bristi’s body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. The body bore several injury marks in its neck, said the SI. Police suspected that miscreants strangled her to death and then dumped the body in the tank. Meanwhile, police arrested six people, including Bristi’s husband Mahiuddin and caretaker of the building in this connection.
