A house wife allegedly burnt to death by in laws demanding dowry at Badarpur village under Gournadi upazila of Barisal.
The victim was identified as Parvin Altar, 26, wife of Nazrul Islam, 31, a motorcycle mechanic of Pinglakathi Bazaar.
A case has been lodged in this connection by Shahjahan Sardar, brother of the victim, as complainant, with Gournadi police station on early Tuesday.
Alauddin Milon, Gournadi police station officer in charge, said four including Nazrul Islam, husband, Jasim Khan, brother in law and 2 other in laws were accused in the case lodged under the law of preventing torture against women and children by the complainant for killing the victim demanding dowry.
The accused fearing arrest left the area locking their house, the OC of Gournadi PS told.
In the case the complainant alleged that Parvin was given marriage socially with Nazrul about 8-year ago and the couple have two sons.
Nazrul was given Tk.90 thousand as dowry in two terms. However Parvin was tortured physically and mentally for more dowries by the in laws. As paternal family members of Parvin failed to pay the demanded more Tk. 20 thousand as dowry, in laws torturing her and pouring kerosene on body set fire on October 19.
Neighbours hearing clamor rushed to the spot and rescuing the victim sent to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
