A housewife was burned to death as a fire broke out in her house at Mandiarkandi village in Sujanagar upazila on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Aleya Khatun, 25, wife of Halim Sheikh of the village.
Witnesses said the fire broke out from the oven of Halim Sheikh and soon spread to the adjoining houses around 3:30pm, burning down seven houses.
Aleya was trapped in her house when the fire broke out and died.
On information, fire fighters from Sujanagar fire service rushed in and doused the flames after an hour of hectic efforts with the help of locals. They recovered the charred body of Aleya from her house. The victims claimed that the fire gutted valuables worth Tk 10 lakh.
