A housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband and mother-in-law inVetnavillage of Haripur upazila on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Ayshea Begum, 21, wife of Amirul Islam of the village. Ruhul Kuddus, officer-in-charge of Haripur Police Station, said as soon as having written allegation, police arrested Amirul Islam, 30, and his mother Shefali, 50, as they allegedly tortured Ayshea for dowry.
Deceased’s father Abdul Hai said Ayshea married Amirul around three years back. But Amirul used to torture Ayshea several times for dowry although he had given at Tk 1 lakh and 10,000 during the marriage. On Thursday, the husband and some other family members beat her seriously, leaving her senseless, said the father.
Hearing the matter, he rushed there and took her to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared her dead, he added.
