A young housewife was tortured to death allegedly by her husband at Estegapur village under Jhenaidah Sadar upazila in the morning of Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Sathi Khatun, 24, wife of Tokan Mandal of the village.
Golam Rabbani Mandal, the father of Sathi of Hatfazilpur village in Sailkupa upazila of the district said, his daughter was married to some Tokan Mandal, son of Abed Ali Mandal of Estegapur village in Jhenaidah Sadar about four years back. Sathi and Tokan have a two-year girl child.
Golam Rabbani said, since the marriage, Tokan was giving pressure to bring money for a new motorbike and a goat for him. He also was giving pressure, Rabbani said, to hand over the piece of land to him from the market closed to Rabbani’s house.
As the family could not fulfill the demand, Tokan had tortured Sathi brutally and sent her to Jhenaidah Sadar hospital spraying toilet cleaner harpic in her face.
Sathi had died at the hospital at about 4.00 in the morning when she was under going treatment there.
