A housewife named Sharmin (20) tried to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on her body and then igniting fire, in the capital’s Jatrabari area on Friday.
Her relatives rescued her in a critical condition and admitted her to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Confirming the matter, Bachchu Mia, the in-charge of the DMCH police outpost said, ‘The doctors on
duty said that 90 percent of the woman’s body was burnt. She is in a critical condition now.
Sharmin’s cousin Afroza said, she is the wife of Ramzan, a pickup driver on Dholaipar Road in Jatrabari. They married three years ago. Husband and wife quarrelled over their lone boy. After the boy fell ill and died, Sharmin was also ill for a long time. At that time the husband did not take any care of her.
He added that Sharmin lived with his parents while her husband lived in his own house in Kutubkhali. Afroza said, ‘They used to talk on mobile phones. Sharmin’s husband used to call her abusive language on the phone at different times, which she could not bear.
Afroza’s idea is that Sharmin tried to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on her body after being mentally disturbed because of her husband’s maltreatment.
