Staff Reporter :
Secretary of Religious Affairs Ministry Dr Chowdhury Babul Hasan has shifted the responsibility on the shoulder of Religious Minister Principal Motiur Rahman about large-scale financial corruption in renting houses for the hajis.
“I’m not involved in house rent affairs for hajis. The Minister [Motiur Rahman] has done everything. The in-charge Minister can do a lot of things, we are undone,” he said.
There is widespread allegation that former president of Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh Jamal Uddin misappropriated Tk 6 crore this year in the name of house rent for hajis those went there in additional quota.
“I was not in Saudi Arabia at that time. Minister went there. I rescheduled my visit three times. I got visa when the houses were already rented. The Minister formed a 10-member committee for house rent involving former and incumbent HAAB officials. So there may be some irregularities,” the Secretary said.
