Banasree housemaid 'death': House owner, guard put on remand

Three persons, including house owner, were arrested in a murder case in connection with the mysterious death of a 25-year old housemaid Laily Begum in the city’s Banasree area on Friday.
The arrested are house owner Moeen Uddin, his wife Shahnaz Begum and guard of the house Tofazzal Hossain Tipu.
Police have arrested Shahnaj from her house at Road No.4, Block-B in Banasree and two others from different areas, said Khilgaon Police Station Inspector (Operation) Mostafizur Rahman.
The arrested persons were being interrogated in this connection, the police official said.
In the meantime, a Dhaka court granted three-day remand for Moeen Uddin and Tofazzal Hossain Tipu for interrogation in connection with the Bansree murder.
Metropolitan Magistrate Court’s judge AKM Moin Uddin Siddique on Saturday granted remand for the duo and sent Shahnaz Begum to jail following a plea of the Investigation Officer (IO) of the murder case.
Earlier, Shahidul Islam, elder brother of Laily’s husband, filed a murder case against Moeen, Shahnaz and Tipu and unknown two to three persons with Khilgaon Police Station on Friday night, said Jahangir Kabir Khan, Officer-in-Charge (investigation) of the police station.
On Saturday, Police filed another case against more than 400 people on charge of attacking law enforcers and vandalizing vehicles during the violence in the area, said Shiblee Noman, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Motijheel zone).
The plaintiff mentioned the names of least 30 people, including the three arrestees in the case, the police official said.
Besides, the postmortem reports found injury marks on neck and head of the body, said Dr Sohel Mahmud, Head of the Forensic Department of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).  
The postmortem was conducted led by Dr Sohel Mahmud at DMCH on Saturday afternoon.
“We have collected tissue, and other samples for the DNA test and viscera profile to confirm rape before the murder,” the doctor said.
After getting complete report, doctors will be ensured about the murder or suicide, he said.
An inquest report on Friday found only a half-moon type sing on the right side of the neck, said Manzur Rahman, Sub-Inspector (SI). He conducted the inquest report.
Earlier on Friday, Police recovered the body of Laily, who used to work as a part-time maid at the house of Moeen at House No. 14 on Road No. 4 in Block D, Banasree. Laily also wife of Nazrul Islam, hailing from Phulbari upazila in Kurigram district.
Following the death, the agitating people ransacked around a dozen vehicles on the road passing along the canal at Banasree from Rampura Bridge and burned tyres, forcing police to halt traffic on the road in the evening.
