House guard to die for killing ex-engr in city

The Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka on Wednesday sentenced a guard to death and his accomplice to life term imprisonment for killing a former Additional Chief Engineer of Roads and Highways Department in 2011.
The death sentenced convict was Nurul Islam, who was the guard of the victim’s house, while Lavlu Rahman was imprisoned for life term.
 Lavlu was tried in absentia. Judge Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah pronounced the verdict in his crowded courtroom..
Brief prosecution story says, Nurul Islam, guard of victim Golam Rahman, made his employer unconscious mixing sleeping pills with his meal in absence of his family members at his Kalabagan residence. He was alone in the house. Later, Nurul Islam killed engineer Golam Rahman hitting on his head with his cousin Lavlu. They looted 70 tolas of gold ornaments and Tk 70,000 in cash from the house. The victim’s family members were at their village home of Jhenaidah. After failing to contact the victim over telephone from the village home, his wife rushed to their Kalabagan residence in the capital and found the deadbody on May 10, 2011. Nurul Islam went into hiding immediately after the incident .
The slain engineer’s wife filed the murder case with Kalabagan Police Station. Some members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Nurul Islam three days after the incident from Benapole of Jessore with 23 tolas of gold ornament.
On April 18, 2012, the investigation officer of the case submitted the chargesheet of the case to the court.
