The residents of the capital city on Thursday experienced the hottest day of the year.
According to the Met Office, the temperature in the capital was 37.6 degrees Celsius on Thursday, the highest heat weather of the year.
It added the highest temperature in the country was recorded at 39 degrees Celsius in Rangpur on the day.
On Wednesday, the temperature in Dhaka was 34.7 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature in the country was 36.5 degrees Celsius in Sylhet on the day, the Met Office added.
“The people felt the heat more specially due to high humidity as it was a the rainless day,” said meteorologist AKM Nazmul Haque.
He said Dhaka’s temperature rose by 3 degrees Celsius in a span of 24 hours.
Nazmul Haque, however, said the hot weather was not unusual because there was no rain in the Bangla month of Shrabon, which is the second month of the rainy season in Bangla calendar.
The temperature in Dhaka was 40.2 degrees Celsius on April 22, 2014, the highest in the capital in five decades.
This season, the highest temperature of the country was 40 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi on June 15.
