Angry mob vandalised a private hospital at Shahrasti Upazila Sadar on Saturday evening following death of a pregnant mother due to allegedly wrong treatment of doctors through caesarian operation. Despite repeated calls, the doctors’ cells were found switched off.
The accused doctors have been remaining absconding, after they both were accused in the case filed by own brother of the victim Jannatul Ferdous on Saturday night.
The pregnant mother died in the afternoon (4.30 pm) on Saturday at DMCH after she gave birth to a baby girl at mid night (at 12 am) on 31 May at Popular Hospital at Shahrasti Upazila Sadar.
The deceased mother was identified as Jannatul Ferdous, 26, wife of Mohammad Hossain of Sengaon village in Shahrasti Upazila.
Shahrasti Thana OC Md Shah Alam said, the pregnant mother was admitted to the Popular Hospital in the evening on 31 May at Shahrasti following her labour pain at home in the afternoon the same day. At around mid night, she was successfully operated upon by Dr Ariful Huque and Dr Najmunnahar Mitu and the mother gave birth to baby girl. At around 2 am, on 1 June, as her condition turned serious and critical due to excessive bleeding, she was rushed to DMCH . But she died at DMCH around 4.30 pm on Saturday. As soon as the death- news reached Shahrasti, her relatives and others grew furious and turned mob and at one stage vandalised the hospital. On information, Police team led by OC Md Shah Alam rushed to the spot and then quelled the commotion of the angry mob with the help of the Upazila Chairman Faridullah Chowdhury and Upazila Vice Chairman Tofayel Ahmed Iran after assuring the mob of giving punishment to the responsible persons for this death at around 10 pm on Saturday.
Contacted, OC Md Shah Alam told this correspondent that a case accusing two above mentioned doctors was filed in this connection on Saturday night. The dead body was sent to Chandpur General Hospital morgue for post mortem at 8 am on Sunday last .
