The Fire Service personnel rescued five members of a family, including a patient, from inside a collapsed lift of Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) after two and a half hours by cutting open the door on Tuesday.
The rescued family members are patient Jasim Uddin, his wife Parvin, two sons Shaheen and Shihab and daughter Shimu. They hail from Dhanikhola village under Trishal upazila of Mymensingh district.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident took place as the wire of the lift suddenly snapped just after the five entered it to go to the upstairs. Parvin slipped from the lift and fell down, while others were trapped inside the lift. On receipt of information, two units of local fire service, RAB and police rushed there and started the rescue operation. The lift was attached to the Emergency Unit of the hospital.
The two units of the Fire Service cut the lift and finally rescued them in two and a half hours time. Their condition is stated to be critical. And all them are now under treatment at the MMCH.
