Horse carts return to empty city streets

Horse carts, a traditional transport service in Old Dhaka, returned to city roads, as the government suspended public transport services to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus in the wake of five deaths and dozens of infections.
Dhaka has been left deserted with motorists and city dwellers abandoning the usually overcrowded streets over health fears.
On Monday, several horse-drawn carriages were seen running from Gulistan to Jatrabari en route to Sanir Akhra taking advantage of dearth in public transports on the city streets.
The carriages are charging Tk 30 per passenger.
Talking to this correspondent, a horse cart owner said, they are now struggling to survive as the carriages transport service in now on the verge of extinction. However, the ongoing situation is Dhaka has created an opportunity for them to bring back service. The photograph was taken on Monday.
