Honoured by this huge responsibility: Trisha

Trisha has a new role to play. We are not talking about her next character in some film, but one in real life. She has been conferred the UNICEF celebrity advocate status for child rights and will be working towards the rights of children, including adolescents, and will lend her support to efforts addressing anaemia, child marriage, child labour and abuse faced by many kids, especially in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Interestingly, this is a first for a south film actress.
An elated Trisha says, “I am honoured and privileged to be getting this recognition. It is also a huge responsibility and I am willing to do all that it takes for child rights.” Though it is too early to reveal plans, Trisha says she’s excited about this new journey. She says, “Right now, I am focusing on becoming a good spokesperson and taking baby steps, as this is a new journey for me. Being an actor, it is great to know there are people who would like to listen to you. With so many negative things doing the rounds, I want to take the good things in this society to the children.”
Her campaigns in Kerala were received well and the team is planning to do more such campaigns in both Tamil Nadu and Kerala. “We had been planning this for the last couple of months. Recently, we did a campaign on measles and rubella, in Kerala. Since I was there for the promotions of my Malayalam release in January, I also got to do this actively there. Somewhere, children are fascinated by film personalities and we should use this to do good for them.”
