Architect Ashiq Imran, Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Chattogram has been awarded the very prestigious medal of Friendship and Cooperation by the government of the Russian Federation in recognition of his significant contribution in developing bilateral relationships between Russia and Bangladesh by establishing a Memorial in memory of Yuri Redkin, the Soviet sailor who sacrificed his life during the mine cleansing operation of Chittagong port in 1973.
The award was handed over to Ashiq Imran on Monday by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bangladesh Alexander Ignatov.
Ambassador highly appreciated Ashiq Imran’s initiative to establish the Redkin Memorial and also thanked former Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation A. J. M. Nasiruddin for all his support and cooperation for realizing the project. Ashiq Imran said that, this memorial proves that Bangladesh never forgets it’s true friends and also it will work as a bridge of friendship and further strengthen friendly relationship between Russia and Bangladesh.
