The BNP on Friday claimed that the Home Minister’s statement fearing sabotage in the ongoing students’ agitation for road safety “signals” of state-sponsored plan to hamstring the movement.
“After Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Jubo League and Chhatra League started to attack agitated students and to vandalise vehicles on Thursday. It seemed, the government is working to eliminate the movement,” BNP Senior-Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said it in a press briefing at the party’s central office.
Police, Jubo League and Chhatra League engineered sudden armed attacks on protestors at Mirpur and other places in the capital on Thursday afternoon. Consequently several students were seriously injured.
The BNP leader said that some middle-aged people and youths equipped with sticks were seen in checking vehicles and to vandalise some of them after the evening on Thursday.
“Those attacks proved that the Home Minister’s statement about sabotage is basically an indication of stabbing the movement from back,” Rizvi said.
Rizvi alleged that Chhatra League and Jubo League men were behined the attack on a reporter and a cameraman of a private television channel on Thursday and strongly condemned that.
