Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal’s son Safi Muddaser Khan-Joty has branded a youth ‘atheist’ in a Facebook post and demanded that he be hanged for ‘making derogatory remarks’ about Prophet Muhammad.
Joty created a photo college of the alleged atheist, a hangman’s noose, and a gavel, and uploaded it on the social networking site on Thursday night.
The words written in Bangla on the image reads: “I demand that the atheist who has made insulting remarks about the prophet be hanged. Share this photo and launch waves of protests.” Asked about the so-called atheist youth, Home Minister Kamal told bdnews24.com on Friday: “Yes. I’ve heard about it. But it’s not in our country, but another one.”
When his attention was drawn to his son’s Facebook post, he said: “Is it so! Why should he share that? I am looking into the matter.”
The post was removed sometimes after bdnews24.com reached Kamal on mobile phone at 8:45pm.
By that time, 47 persons had shared the post and 199, including an officer with the rank of superintendent of police, hit the Like button. Many of Joty’s Facebook followers posted comments in support for his demand.
One Wahid Ornob wrote: “What happened Bhai? What has he said? Give the link boss!” In reply to Ornob’s comment, Joty wrote: “Almost everyone has seen his viral video. All right, I’ll give you the link whenever I get it the next time. Check his ID; you’ll see everything about this disgrace.” “But who will bell the cat? The gentleman is now in Kolkata,” one Shah Mohammad Mostafa Kamal wrote. “Hmm… there should be arrangements to bring him back to the country,” Joty replied. Joty, the only son among the minister’s two children, is the managing director of family-run business ‘Savar Refractories Limited’.
According to his Facebook page, he studied at BRAC University and United International University after completing secondary and higher secondary education at Rajuk Uttara Model School and College.
