UNB, Dhaka :
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Thursday dismissed the report of Human Rights Watch (HRW) on the violation of human rights by law enforcement agencies in Bangladesh as ‘fabricated’.
The minister came up with the remarks while addressing a press conference at his office in the afternoon.
“People in our country get disappeared for various reasons. Sometimes they go into hiding for the burden of huge loan or social reason. Sometimes, big terrorists hide themselves for
dodging the law enforcement agencies,” he added. He continued, “If this is called enforced disappearance, the term will have to be redefined.” In a recent report titled ‘We Don’t Have Him’: Secret Detentions and Enforced Disappearances in Bangladesh,’ HRW claimed that Bangladesh law enforcement authorities have ‘illegally detained’ hundreds of people since 2013, including scores of opposition activists, and held them in ‘secret detention’.
It also said Bangladesh government should order prompt, impartial, and independent investigations into these allegations.
