Ehsanul Haque Jasim :Although the government claims that country’s road condition is now better than anytime in the past, most of the roads and highways are still in bad shape. Sources said, the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) would only spend around Tk. 300 crore in repairing roads and highways. The repair projects have been taken in the name of making hassle-free journey during the Eid-ul-Fitr. Observers said that it would nothing but misuse of the government fund in the name road repair ahead of the Eid. Meanwhile, the train ticket counters were seen crowded on Friday. The advance sale of the train tickets began on Thursday. Many passengers could not collect their advance tickets from the Kamlapur Railway Station even after waiting in the queue for long. Some ticket seekers alleged that the railway employees were very slow in delivering service, while some others raised allegation of irregularities and misbehave by the employees. Manager of the Kamalapur Railway Station Shitangshu Chakravarty said that the pressure for advance tickets was very high after the railway had started selling advance tickets. He, however, said that adequate law enforcers were deployed there to prevent irregularities.Bangladesh Railway will provide 14 special train services in a bid to make travel easier for passengers during the Eid. A passenger said, millions of people would leave Dhaka during the Eid. The number of special train services against the millions people is not sufficient. The Railway authorities are accommodating for around 2.5 lakh passengers during the Eid. The pressure on the train service could have been less if the condition of roads and highways could not worsen, said a Railway official.
