Holy Family teacher’s remand rejected

A Dhaka court yesterday rejected the bail plea and put Dhaka’s Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College teacher Dr Salauddin Chowdhury on a five-day remand in the case filed against him on charge of harassing a female student sexually.
Magistrate Mamunur Rashid of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed order after hearing on Thursday. The court also directed to send to the Assistant Professor to the jail.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)
yesterday arrested Dr Salauddin. Earlier, on Tuesday (December 28) a female student filed the case with Ramna Model Police Station of the city for allegedly harassing her sexually.
The dossier of the case says that Dr Salauddin Chowdhury is an Assistant Professor of the Pharmacology Depart-ment of the college. On September 9 of last year, the accused gave the student several bad proposals. As she refused, the accused threatened to keep her in solitary custody for many years. Besides, the accused asked the complainant to meet him separately.
