Holy Ashura observed

The holy Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), was observed in Gouripur Upazila in Mymensingh with due religious fervour and solemnity.
Various religious organisations and political parties have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the Day.
The holy Ashura is observed on the 10th of Muharram to commemorate the Karbala tragedy in which Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA), grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM), along with his family members and followers embraced martyrdom.
On this day, 10th Muharram in the Hijri year 61, Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA) along with his family members and close relations were entrapped by Yazid’s forces and later embraced martyrdom in Karbala after battling for long hours.
About 1332 years back, Imam Hossain (RA) had to make supreme sacrifice to uphold the spirit of Islam and the teachings of the Great Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH)..
Talking to The New Nation Pir Syed Shahnur Abtab Parvez Nuri at his Asthana in Bahadurpur village of this upazila said, Holy Ashura is a significant as well as a day of mourning for the Muslim Ummah for establishing truth and justice and also said, Muslims of this region who are followers to the Sureshuri Mazar at Shariatpur came here to celebrate Holy Ashura under the leadership of him.
Barisal Correspondent reports: The holy Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) was observed in Barisal peacefully amid tight security on Saturday afternoon following the tensions created after deadly blasts targeting a gathering of the Shia sect of Muslim community at the Hussaini Dalan area of Dhaka happened on early Saturday.
Shia community members arranged distribution of cold Sarbat (sweetened water) at Falpatty area, brought out Sina-jani (injuring himself with knifes at different parts of the body, beating on chest) procession, singing elegies on different parts of the city.
They remembering the day with sorrow and passion and repeatedly striking the chest with hands chanted slogans ‘Hae Hassan, Hae Hussain’ in repentances of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grand son of Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
Discussion on the history, significances and importance of the day also held at different mosques and places in the city on this occasion.
On this day in Hizri year of 61 at Karbala of present Iraq, Imam Hussain (RA) , along with his family members and 72 followers embraced martyrdom in the hands of the soldiers of Yazid at the Karbala desert for supremacy of justice and righteousness .
BSS from Rajshahi adds: The Muslims in Rajshahi city like other parts of the country observed the holy Ashura yesterday marking the 10th day of Muharram with due religious solemnity and in a befitting manner.
The day was observed as a symbol of “sacrifice and mourning” recalling the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain Ibn Ali (RA), a grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), in the battle of Karbala on the 10th of Muharram in Hijri 61.
Different religious organizations, including Islamic Foundation, observed the day through various programmes.
The Shi’a Muslims brought out a large processions known as Tazia in the city from Shaheb Bazar area and paraded main streets chanting “Hai Hussein, Hai Hussein”.
Besides, several processions were brought out from the city’s different areas including Dargapara, Seroil and Upashahar areas.
In the processions, the Shi’a Muslims expressed mourning and grief by flagellating themselves on the back with chains, beating their heads intending to connect them with Imam Hussain’s (RA) sufferings.
Other programmes of the day included Quran Khwani, Milad Mahfil, fasting and feeding of the destitute.
