Holy Ashura observed

The holy Ashura (10th Muharram) to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA) and his 70 followers, was observed in Bagerhat district town with due religious fervour and solemnity on Tuesday as else where of the country.
Earlier various religious organisations chalked out separate and elaborate programmes to observe the day in a befitting manner.
 On the occasion a discussion meeting was held in the local central Jame mosque (old court mosque) on the teaching of Karbala. It was rounded off with a special prayer for the salvation of the departed souls of those who sacrificed their lives in the filed of Karbala for the cause of right, justice and mankind and seeking divine blessings for the establishment of peace, tranquility and justice in Muslim Ummah as well as in our country.
BSS from Rangpur reports: The holy Ashura, marking the tragic 10th day of Muharram, was observed in Rangpur on Tuesday through various daylong programmes befittingly with due religious fervour and solemnity.
The day was observed as a symbol of ‘sacrifice and mourning’ recalling the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussein Ibne Ali (RA), younger grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), in the battle of Karbala in Iraq on that day in Hijri year of 61.
The Muslims brought out ‘Tazia’ processions from Muslim Para, Babupara, Alamnagar, Ispahani Colony and others areas in the city chanting slogans of ‘Hai Hussein, Hai Hussein.’
Participants in the processions expressed their deepest grief by flagellating themselves on the back with chains intending to connect them with the sufferings of Imam Hussein (RA) before he embraced martyrdom.
The daylong programmes also included recitation from the Holy Qur’an, discussions and milad mahfils in the mosques, fasting and feeding of the poor and destitutes.
The Islamic Foundation Bangladesh (IFB) organised a discussion styled ‘Role of Religious Leaders in Preserving Peace and Order in Society and Importance of Holy Ashura’ at its auditorium in the city to mark the day.
Deputy Commissioner Farid Ahammad attended the discussion as the chief guest with Zila Parishad Administrator and Acting President of district Awami League (AL) Mamtaz Uddin Ahmmed in the chair.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: The Muslims in Rajshahi city like other parts of the country observed the holy Ashura yesterday marking the 10th day of Muharram with due religious solemnity and in a befitting manner.
The day was observed as a symbol of “sacrifice and mourning” recalling the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain Ibn Ali (RA), a grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), in the battle of Karbala on the 10th of Muharram in Hijri 61.
Different religious organizations, including Islamic Foundation, observed the day through various programmes.
The Shi’a Muslims brought out large processions known as Tazia in the city from Shaheb Bazar area in the city and paraded main streets chanting “Hai Hussein, Hai Hussein”.
Besides, several processions were brought out from the city’s different areas including Dargapara, Seroil and Upashahar areas.
