The Dhaka city’s different amusement centres have witnessed heavy rush during the Eid holidays as city dwellers thronged there to celebrate the festival, mostly with families.
The amusement centres, including Shishu Park at Shahbagh, Dhaka Zoo at Mirpur, National Museum, Shishu Mela at Shyamoli, Jamuna Future Park, Fantasy Kingdom and Nandan Park, became main attractions for families with kids during the Eid holidays.
Sohel Ahmed, a Dhaka city resident visiting Shishu Park with his family on the Eid day said, ‘The people who live in the city have only a handful of places to go for day-out with family and kids, but during the Eid holidays, kids feel more excited to get on different rides and have fun.’
Different parks and centres also added new rides and entertainment features to their usual ones to keep the visitors entertained during Eid holidays, said an official of Dhaka South City Corporation.
“We have also taken sufficient precautionary measures to ensure safety of the visitors,” he added.
This year, Shishu Park had twice the number of visitors compared to the previous year’s Eid, said Abul Kalam, a counter manager of the park.
Shishu Park at Shahbagh, a usual favourite with kids in central Dhaka, saw a steady stream of visitors as it was decorated with lights for the Eid holidays.
For the people who usually cannot afford time and energy to go or take their kids to amusement parks and zoos due to terrible traffic jam in the city, found them worth visiting and join the holiday crowd as travelling time was significantly less, said Abdus Salam, a visitor to the Dhaka Zoo at Mirpur.
Cinema halls in the city also premiered special Eid movies during the holidays.
The normally buzzing city life was quiet and peaceful as thousands of people went to their family homes and celebrated Eid with the near and dear ones.
Eid gatherings of children and cultural functions also took place in the city.
Vehicular and pedestrian movements on the normally busy streets of the city were very thin as the city dwellers carried on the holiday mood on Monday.
