The government and private offices opened on Sunday after five days of Eid-ul-Azha and weekend holidays.
The three-day public holiday on the occasion of Eid-ul- Azha ended Thursday while Friday and Saturday were the weekend holidays.
The capital city, however, still remained in holiday mood with thin presence of people at their workplaces while many holidaymakers are yet to return to the capital from their village homes.
Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Muslims, was celebrated across the country on Wednesday amid much enthusiasm and religious fervour.
The three-day Eid holidays began on August 21, but people enjoyed an additional vacation from August 24-25 as the two days were weekends. Banks and stock market resumed usual business on Sunday. The banks saw very few clients while stock market opened the post-Eid trading in positive mood, taking the price indices upward from the very beginning of the session. The bus terminals and railway stations were not busy like usual days, with only a few people were seen coming back to the capital while there were only a few outbound passengers.
The big malls and most of the shops in city markets remained closed while some vendors at different kitchen markets in the city were awaiting customers with limited items in their hands to sell. There were also a very few vendors and customers at the footpath shops in the city.
There was no traffic congestion as few public and private vehicles were plying on the city streets.
The situation, however, was quite opposite at different amusement sites and locations in the city, including Dhaka Zoo, Shishu Park and Hatirheel Lake.
Most of these places had been witnessing huge and constant rush after the Eid day as people from different areas of the city went there for giving their families a good treat.
