The holding tax at Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has not been increased rather it remains unchanged to previous rate of 12 per cent for the last 29 years, said Mayor of the corporation Sayeed Khokon.
“The holding tax rate remains the same as it has not been assessed for the last 29 years. So this time we are adjusting the rate between old and newly built houses and flats for removing existing disparity,” he said while inaugurating electronic trade license and electronic holding tax payment system at Nagar Bhaban in the city on Thursday.
The e-trade license and holding tax payment system was implemented with the assistance of Access to Information (a2i) Project.
There are about 182,000 trade license holders and
1,65,000 holdings in the DSCC area. They now can pay fees of trade license and holding tax electronically which will increase customers convenience, decrease corruption, and ensure corporation’s accountability.
The mayor said for building an equality-based society and city, it is important to introduce contemporary automation system. It will eventually reduce the projected holding tax up to 40 per cent by saving payers time and money.
“We have introduced e-tendering and digital attendance system already in the DSCC offices for ensuring accountability and clarity and this inauguration of the e-trade license and holding tax payment system is the sequential process of such digitization,” he added.
In the inauguration session, the mayor handed over e-trade license to Shah Mohaymen Hajj and travels proprietor Sayed Abdul Modasser, while acting Chief Executive Officer of the DSCC Shahbuddin Khan, a2i Project Director Kabir Bin Anwar, Director of a2i at DSCC Abdul Khalek, Chief Revenue Officer of DSCC Yousuf Ali Sardar, Chief Urban Planner of DSCC Sirajulm Islam, System Analyst Abu Tayeb, among other, were present.
