Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque on Monday instructed authorities concerned to hold social and religious programmes on a limited scale to stop the spread of coronavirus.
“You (authorities) will have to hold social programmes, public gatherings, religious and sports events on a limited scale. You should avoid the programmes if possible,” said the minister at a briefing in the ministry after a meeting of the national committee on containing coronavirus.
He asked authorities concerned to arrange cricket or football tournament without audiences.
The government has kept 400 hospital beds ready in Dhaka for treatment of coronavirus-infected people while every district has 100 beds, he claimed.
He also said the government has no plan to close schools and colleges at this moment as the situation is not bad enough.
The minister asked the educational institutions to increase the use of masks, handwash and sanitisers, adding that the government will take necessary steps to stop price hike of masks, handwash and sanitisers.
The minister also requested Bangladeshi expatriates living in different countries not to return to Bangladesh now.
