Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder has urged the officials concerned to determine public perception of the recently held 11th general election.
He urged all while addressing a programme organised for the election officials about the upcoming mayor by-election of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) at the Electoral Training Institute (ETI), Agargaon, Dhaka, on Thursday.
Addressing the event, Election Commissioner Talukder said: “I have studied the recently held 11th Parliamentary election. I want to share with you my views, which in turn could help you [officials and trainees] in the upcoming city corporation election.
“Our election is dependent on the poll officials and law enforcement. I have noticed that election officials and observers have used two specific words to describe the 11th general polls. One word was satisfactory, and the other was normal.”
He questioned: Does that mean that the previous general election was satisfactory? We must find out what the public thinks about it.
EC Mahbub Talukder said the Election Commission should hold the city corporation election in Dhaka in accordance with the law so
that no one can get a scope to question it.
“We all should be committed to organise a fair, acceptable and credible election,” he added..
The reports prepared by the returning officers and election observers should carry the real picture of the election, he said.
He hoped that the Election Commission will be able to hold a beautiful and flawless mayor election in the DNCC and councilor polls for DNCC and DSCC.
Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda, Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed, election commissioners, secretariat officials, returning and assistant returning officers, plus officials of the Dhaka north and south city corporation were present at the event.
