Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has warned of stern action against The Daily Star for provoking militants through a photo published in the daily.
She made the warning while replying to a question from Peer Fazlur Rahman in the parliament on Wednesday.
“The Daily Star published a huge poster of Hizbut Tahrir on page -3 in its February 11 edition. The poster was pasted at a corner of Bangla Motor, where none would pay attention to it,” the PM said.
“Positive or negative in which way the poster was published in the newspaper is alike to patronage the Hizbut Tahrir. Action will be taken against them who are patronising Hizbut Tahrir by publishing their poster,’ she said.
The Premier further said, “The Hizbut Tahrir is banned since long time ago in 2009. For this reason, they could not do any harm since then. Now the activities of Hizbut Tahrir have increased due to anarchy of Khaleda Zia. Khaleda and Hizbut Tahrir are inter-linked. “
The daily published a poster of banned Hizb-ut Tahrir, with the caption “Fanatics raise their ugly head again” on February 11, 2015. On February 15, a Judge Court lawyer filed a case against the editor and publisher of The Daily Star, Mahfuz Anam, and two others of the daily for publishing the photograph.
