UNB, Pabna :
A top official of Bangladesh Sugarcane Research Institute (BSRI) was reportedly killed as he was hit by the jeep of BSRI director general on the institute premises in Ishwardi upazila on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Dr Abdullah, 55, senior scientific officer (SSO) of the BSRI and also the project director of a project on sugar beet cultivation under the institute.
BSRI sources said Dr Abdullah was hit by the jeep of BSRI DG Khalilur Rahman near the mosque on its compound around 9am while the former was returning from a field visit with a foreign delegation, leaving him seriously injured.
The injured was rushed to a local hospital where doctors referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
He, however, died on the way to the RMCH near Lalpur.
Meanwhile, neither police nor the BSRI authorities confirmed the accident.
The BSRI director general could not be reached for his comments as several phone calls made by UNB to his official phone number were rejected.
Officer-in-charge Dhiman Kumar Das of Ishwardi Police Station said no one informed them about the reported incident.
Sources in the BSRI said the body of Dr Abdullah was taken to the institute and his relatives also arrived from Bhaluka upazila in Mymensingh district to receive the body.
