Staff Reporter :
Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain, lawyer of war crimes convicted and Jamaat-e-Islam leader Mir Quasem Ali, said that the history would judge the verdict issued against his client.
Khandker Mahbub, also President of Supreme Court Bar Association, said this on Tuesday after announcement of judgement of Appellate Division of the Supreme Court that upheld the death sentence of Mir Quasem Ali for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.
He said that they would decide about moving review petition after receiving the full verdict.
Meanwhile, Mir Quasem’s wife Khondaker Ayesha Khatun in a statement said that the evidence brought against her husband was not sufficient and it can no way to probe the offences. “It was also understood by the Chief Justice’s remarks he made during argument of the case. Therefore, there is no legal basis to uphold the death sentence.”
“Some Ministers’ open threaten to the Chief Justice and changing of the court’s decision frequently just before pronouncement of the verdict, now question arises to us and even among the people of the country if the judiciary is actually independent,” she said in the statement.
She also said that they are deprived of justice, and therefore, they will file review petition after getting copy of the verdict.
On the other hand, Jamaat-e-Islami called a dawn-to-dusk hartal for Wednesday (today) protesting the judgment.
