Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam yesterday said the history will evaluate BNP founder Ziaur Rahman for his role after the political changeover of 1975.
“Ziaur Rahman’s role has become questionable after the brutal killings of August 15 . . . He (Zia) established his position as a villain in the history after 1975,” he said while speaking at a discussion of Bangladesh Journalists Rights Forum (BJRF) at the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) here.
The minister said not only the grave of Ziaur Rahman, but also the graves of others, including Moshiur Rahman Jadu Miah, would be removed from parliament area as those were not included in the original design of architect Louis Kahn.
Quamrul added: “The initiative of removing the Zia’s grave is not any conspiracy at all.”
BJRF Adviser and senior journalist Azizul Islam Bhuiyan presided over the discussion organized on the occasion of its founding anniversary while BJRF General Secretary Ataur Rahman presented the keynote paper.
Among others, former JPC General Secretary and advisory editor of the Daily Bartaman Swapn Shaha, Dhaka-based Indian Journalists Association’s General Secretary Sukumar Sarker, journalist leaders – Abdul Mannan and Alamgir Hossain, also spoke on the occasion.
