The historic Mujibnagar Day was observed here on Saturday with a pledge to let the new generation know the history of the Independence War abiding by the health directives in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The day was observed remembering the oath taking of the Bangladesh government-in-exile during the Liberation War in 1971 at Baidyanathtala of Meherpur in Kushtia on April 17, 1971.
The then government formally announced the proclamation of independence at the program.
On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner (DC)
Dr. Md. Munsur Alam Khan started the day’s activities by hoisting the national flag atop the Mujibnagar Memorial in the morning and also placed wreaths at the Mujibnagar memorial.
Additional Superintendent of Police Jamirul Islam and District Ansar VDP Commander Rakibul Islam were also present on the occasion.
They also observed one-minute silence to show respect to the martyrs.
Later, Doa was held seeking forgiveness of souls of the martyrs.
