Ruling Awami League, JSD (Inu), Socio-cultural professional bodies and District Administration chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the historic Mujibnagar Day in Kishoreganj on Sunday.
Kishoreganj District Administration arranged a discussion, documentary film show marking the day.
A discussion meeting on the historic Mujibnagar and Independent of Bangladesh was held at Kishoreganj collectorate conference room with Deputy Commission Md. Azimuddin Biswas in the chair.
It was addressed among others by Zilla Parished Administration Adv Md. Zillur Rahman, Civil Surgeon Dr. Muklesur Rahman Khan, Additional Police Super Mustahin Hossain, ADC (G) Tarafder Md. Akther Jamil, District Awami League General Secretary Advocate M.A. Afzol, Principal Professor Rafiqul Islam Khan, Press Club President Kazi Shaheen Khan, Muktijoddha Unit Commander Md. Asad Ullah, District Press Club President Mostafa Kamal, Mohila Parished President Sultana Rajia, CAB District Secretary Monowar Hossain Rony, Former Poura Chairman Nurul Islam, Women Leader Biliks Begum and Sadar UNO Abu Naser Beg.
Khulna Correspondent reports: The historic Mujibnagar Day, commemorating the oath taking of the provisional government of independent Bangladesh in exile on this day in 1971, was observed in Khulna on Sunday amid much enthusiasm and in a befitting manner.
Marking the day, Khulna district administration arranged a discussion meeting in the conference room of DC here.
DC of Khulna district Nazmul Ahsan, administrator of Khulna District Councilor and president of the district unit of Awami League Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid addressed the meeting as the chief guest and special guest while Advocate Enayet Ali, a member of national assembly (MNA) of the then Pakistan and one of the framers of Bangladesh constitution, was the key speaker.
Among others, Acting Police Super SM Shafiqullah, president of Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ) SM Zahid Hossain, general secretary of Khulna Zila Shilpakala Academy Mokbul Hossain Mintu and presidents of Khulna city and district units of Muktijoddha Command Council Professor Alamgir Kabir and Sarder Mahbubur Rahman also spoke.
Highlighting various aspects of the Day, Enayet Ali also said the 16 December 1971 in our national life came holding the hands of the 17 April. The provisional government was formed on that day for giving a legal coverage to the administration of independent Bangladesh.
He said this helped getting different supports, including recognition to the provisional independent government, from the outside world.
He called upon all concerned, including freedom fighters, to present the correct history of the liberation war before the future generation
BSS from Faridpur adds: Historic Mujibnagar Day, the day when the provisional Bangladesh government in exile took oath in a mango grove of Baiddyanathtala (Mujibnagar) on this day in 1971, was observed here on Sunday.
A discussion meeting on this occasion was held at the conference room of the DC of Faridpur.
The discussion, organised by local district administration, was chaired by ADC (Gen) Dr. ANM Abdus Sabur. The Deputy Director of Local Government Md Abdur Rashid attended as the chief guest while elite, educationists, freedom fighters and a large number of students were also present.
Earlier, a rally was brought out in the town in this connection.
Speakers addressing the discussion paid glowing tributes to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other national leaders particularly the four national leaders who contributed immensely for the liberation of Bangladesh.
Speakers recalled the events of the day when the exiled leaders took the most momentous decision of forming a legal government and took oath.
Abdur Rashid in his speech stressed the need for informing the young and new generation the importance and background of Mujibnagar day. He also urged all to materialize the cherished dream of Bangabandhu, to make Bangladesh happy and prosperous.
