Historic March 7 observed in Ctg

The Historic March 7 was celebrated in the city and district yesterday pledging to establish a non-communal and prosperous Bangladesh and complete the trial of the war criminals in line with the spirit of the Liberation War.
Building a rock-like resistance against anarchy, violence and conspiracies against the present government by BNP-Jamaat-Shibir in the name of 20-party alliances was also stressed.
In addition to the government programme, different political parties ,their front organizations, socio-cultural and professional bodies, educational institutions, Bangladesh Awami League and its front organisations, arranged discussions in connection with the observance of historic 7th March through daylong programme.
The day’s programme began with the placing of floral wreaths on the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the early hours of the day.
The programmes also included hoisting of the National flag at the party offices of the different wings of Awami League and playing of the recorded speech of March 7 by Bangabandhu at all wards office of the Chittagong City Corporation.
To mark the day, Chittagong city unit of Bangladesh Awami League organized a discussion at central Shaheed Minar. AL also held discussions highlighting the significance of the day at different places and upazilas of the district.
Former Mayor and City AL President A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury presided over the meeting while City AL General Secretary A Z M Nasir Uddin, AL leaders Khurshed Alam Sujan, Badiul Alam and Advocate Iftekher Saimul Chowdhury spoke at the discussion meeting held at the Shahid Minar premises this afternoon.
Speaking at the meeting, AL leaders said the March 7 was the turning point of country’s independence struggle and the people participated in the War of Liberation inspired by Bangabandhu’s speech.
They said it is high time to be united like 1971 to complete the trial of all war criminals. The Awami League leaders called upon their workers to resist anarchy, violence and conspiracies against the present government by vested quarters for establishing a non-communal and prosperous Bangladesh. Chittagong city, north and south districts units of AL and its different front organizations organized day long programmes in observance of the day.
Chittagong Press Club and Chittagong Union of Journalists organized a discussion meeting to mark the day. Our CU correspondent said the authority of different educational institutions including Chittagong University, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology and Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU), University of Science and Technology (Chittagong ) USTC and Chittagong College also celebrated historic March 7 holding discussions and playing the record of Bangabandhu’s March 7 speech.
