The Historic March 7 was observed in the port city as elsewhere in the district yesterday with a call for accelerating the trial of all war criminals through resisting anarchy and violence of Jamaat-Shibir.
Bangladesh Awami League (AL), its front organisations, different educational institutions, professional bodies and socio-cultural organisations observed the Historic 7th March through a daylong programme.
The day’s programme heralded with the placing of floral wreaths on the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the early hours of today, hoisting the National flags at the party offices of the different wings of AL, playing the recorded speech on the historic 7th March of Bangabndhu in all wards office of the Chittagong City Corporation.
To mark the day, Chittagong city unit of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) organised a discussion at central shaheed Minar. They also held discussions highlighting the significance of the day as well as different places and upazilas.
Chittagong north and south district AL also observed the day arranging similar programmes at their respective party offices in the city.
Addressing the meeting, AL leaders said the March 7 was the turning point of the country’s independence and all countrymen being participated in the liberation war to inspire by the speech of Bangabandhu.
They said it is high time to be united like 1971 to complete the trial of all war criminals.
Former Mayor and City AL President A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury presided over the meeting while Minister for public works and housing Engineer Mosharraf Hossain addressed the function as the chief guest.
City AL General Secretary A Z M Nasir Uddin, AL leader Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury, Noyom Uddin Chowdhury, Khurshed Alam Sujan, Advocate Ibrahim Hossain Chowdhury Babul and Advocate Iftakher Saimul Chowdhury were present, among others.
