Bimal Chandra Bepari, the 10th prosecution witness (PW) in the trial of engineer Abdul Jabbar, on Thursday testified at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1, alleging that following the order of the fugitive former Jatiya Party MP, Razakars had forcefully converted 150 to 200 Hindus to Islam in 1971.
The PW said Jabbar, chairman of Mathbaria unit Peace Committee in Pirojpur in 1971, had termed Hindus as the enemy of Pakistan and said it is okay to plunder the belongings of Hindus as these were ‘war booties’. “After this announcement of Jabbar made on 16 May, 1971, Razakars looted our house and set it on fire,” Bimal said.
After that Abdus Sattar Sharif, brother of martyr Freedom Fighter Motaleb Sharif, appearing as the PW-11, corroborated the deposition of his another brother and PW-8, Mozammel Haque Sharif.
After that Justice M Enayetur Rahim, chairman of the two-member panel of ICT-1, adjourned the hearing till October 15.
The ICT-1 on August 14 indicted Jabbar, allegedly the chairman of Mathbaria unit of Peace Committee in Pirojpur during the War of Liberation, framing five charges of crimes against humanity against him.
