Chittagong Bureau :
The dwellers of hill-slopes , tilltops in city’s 11 risky hills are not at all willing to shift their residences as they afraid of not return back their same location when backs.
Meanwhile district administration has undertaken a number of measures to shift these risky hill slopes dwellers to safer places during rainy season.
Mentionable that influential land grabbers under different political banners facilitate the hill pocket dwellers to reside beside the hilly kutcha houses with comparatively cheap rent. Besides, Railway East Zone authority is trying to shift the illegal occupants from the railway owned hills in city but failed to vacate as yet despite repeated efforts.
The announcement of shifting 600 families from 11 hill slopes of Tiger Pass,Lalkhan Bazaar, Motijharna, Akbarshah areas by the district administration are not true but about 50 shanties were demolished in lalkhan bazaar hill areas recently. District administration and the police authority jointly enforced the eviction measures but the most vulnerable poor families declined to shift to otherwise which is questionable for the administration. But there is question of total eviction of the hill slopes dwellers unless proper rehabilitation and temporary shelter is not a permanent solution, conscious quarters observed.
Eye witnesses sources said following the miking of district administration and police, a few families from hill slopes shift away but they returned in same location in the night. District administration in the meantime, earmarked 11 risky hills in city viz.
Lalkan bazaar, Motijharna, Battali hills, Tigerpass, Ambagan, Akbarshah, Baghona, Railway housing society adjacent hills, Bazid , Mohammadnagar, Rahmanagar etc where atleast 666 family are residing in kutcha and semi pucca houses, district administration sources said.
