Bangladesh has recorded its highest daily surge in deaths from coronavirus since the outbreak began in the country.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported a further 42 deaths in the past 24 hours till Sunday, taking the death toll in the country to 888.
Of the new deceased, 35 are men while seven are women.
The first coronavirus death was recorded on March 18 and previous highest 40 deaths were registered on May 31.
Besides, confirmed coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours till Sunday have jumped to 65,769 with the detection of 2,743 more infections during the period.
DGHS Additional Director General Prof Dr Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.
She said 578 more patients recovered from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 13,903.
Prof Nasima said 13,135 samples were tested in 52 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 397,987 samples have so far been tested in the country.
In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 20.88 percent, she said.
The DGHS additional director general said also against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 21.14. On Saturday, Bangladesh recorded 35 deaths from coronavirus and 2,635 cases.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has jumped past 4 lakh to reach 402,170 as of Sunday morning.
Besides, it has so far infected 6,976,045 people around the world, according to Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 3,162,087 patients, 3,108,501 are in mild condition while 53,586 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 3,411,788 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.
