With the deaths of 50 more people in the last 24 hours until 8:00 am on Tuesday, Bangladesh’s Covid-19 death count now stands at 13,222.
During this timeline, 3,319 fresh cases were reported, taking the total virus cases to 8,33,291. This is the highest daily count since April 23.
On Monday, the country reported 3,050 new cases and 54 deaths from coronavirus.
Health authorities also reported 2,243 more recoveries over the preceding 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 7,71,073, according to data released by the government.
Among 50 deceased persons, 30 are male and 20 female. Of them, six are from Dhaka, six from Chattogram, 15 from Rajshahi, 15 from Khulna, one from Barishal, three from Sylhet, one from Rangpur, and three from Mymensingh division. In the last 24 hours, 512 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country collected 23,953 samples and tested 23,256.
With this, a total of 62,18,979 samples were tested in the country.
The infection rate is 14.27 per cent in the last 24 hours, compared to the samples tested, while the overall infection rate is 13.40 per cent.
So far, the recovery rate is 92.53 per cent and the mortality rate is 1.59 per cent.
China reported first death from the novel coronavirus in Wuhan, the capital of Central China’s Hubei province, on January 11 last year.
Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus case on March 8 last year and the first death on March 18 the same year.
