New record of container handling within 24 hours set in Chattogram Port . After end of cyclonic storm signal(Fani) , CP handles 7,420 TEUs containers in last 24 hours .
Out of total handlings, 4,601 containers unloaded from vessels at inner jetties and 2,819 containers loaded in outgoing vessels, a port sources said. At the same time, containers were delivered from shed 3,506 TEUs container. Sources said after lifting of cyclonic storm signal on Sunday, all the vessels brought in inner berths from safer places of outer berths and began unloading from 10 am from Sunday. According to latest reports of the CP, there were 86 vessels at outer berths during signal No.7 consists of 15 of general cargo,8 cement clinker, 17 of sugar consignment, 2 salt, and 6 oil tankers. Besides, 6 vessels were wainting in river moorings and special berths during the signal period.
Out of total 86 vessels, loading , unloading could not be effected within this period of 24 hours. According to reports, 2,819 TEUs containers loaded with exportable cargos during the period consists of 122 TEUs containers from Dhaka ICD, 721 loaded container came from ICD and 2f04 containers empty containers from ICDs. Director (Transportation) of CP Enamul Karim told media persons that after normalizing the signal of cyclonic storm Foni, the port activities resumes in full swing. Sources said following the installations of new handling equipments and management of operations, the port achieved this recorded handlings of containers soon after the cyclonic storm Fani’s signal lifted.
