Highest alert at Benapole Port

Health authorities have issued the highest alert at Benapole land port and international check post for ‘coronavirus’.
Medical teams have been checking passengers, truck drivers and their helpers coming into the country from India.
At least 25 truck drivers and helpers were sent back to India on Sunday due high temperatures.
Besides, additional highest alert have also been issued in the Benapole International Checkpost and Port area since Monday morning. Special alert has been issued in Benapole port and international checkpost soon after the three persons were infected with coronavirus virus in Bangladesh for the first time.
From January 25 till March 8, medical teams conducted screening of 20,000 Indians and 500 more from other countries.
 Indian authorities have also issued a red alert at the Petrapole Port and check post areas of India.
Dr Zahidul Islam, in-charge of the medical team at Benapole Immigration, said that they have enforced stringent screening of inbound passengers and travellers amid detection of coronavirus cases in the country.
However, he said, now health tests are being carried out with hand thermometers, as the digital thermal scanner at the Benapole checkpost remains inoperative.
When asked, Dr Abu Shaheen, Jashore district’s a civil surgeon, said, they have informed the matter to the Ministry of Health and hopefully the scanner issue will be resolved within 2-3 days.
