With the initiative of Department of Agricultural Extension, Kapasia Upazila, Gazipur, Surjamukhi, Bari-3 variety of high yielding crop was exhibited at the field level with funding of revenue sector for the financial year 2020-2021.
Mosharraf Hossain Khan, a farmer from Uttar Khamer village of the Kapasia upazila, cultivated this sunflower exhibited on 33 decimal of his land. Farmer Mosharraf Hossain Khan said, Upazila Agriculture Officer advised him to cultivate improved varieties of sunflower.
On the advice of the officer, he sowed sunflower seeds on his land on December 21 last year. Now every tree is full of flowers.
He added that there is no possibility of harm to animals or birds in general. But curious people have to face problems in Anagona. Many people go inside the land to take pictures, the trees are broken. There have been incidents of someone plucking flowers again.
However, the low cost steam crop has brought smiles on the faces of the farmers, hoping that the prices of the products will get better. He has expressed his desire to cultivate sunflower in more lands in the future as it is more profitable than other crops.
This year in Gazipur district 38 hectares of land has been cultivated with sunflower Bari-3 variety. Among them, it is cultivated in 6 hectares of land in Kapasia upazila. The farmers are given seeds and fertilizers. However, the farmer prepares the land at his own expense.
