Favourable weather: High yield mustard output likely in Dupchanchia

Available good weather is boosting high yield mustard output in Dupchanchia upazila of Bogura district this season .
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office source the farmers have already begin harvesting of the crop from the last week of January and it will continue till middle of February.
With appearance of the newly harvested mustard oilseed, the average price of the crop fall down to Tk 2,000 per mound against the price of Tk 2,500 per mound last month in the local markets.
The farmers cultivated mustard on 2146 hectares of land against the fixed target of bringing 2093 hectares of land under its cultivation to produce 1200 tonnes of the oilseed in Dupchanchia agriculture region this season.
Meanwhile, the farmers as well as Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) are expecting a better output of mustard during the current Rabi season as harvesting of the crop began with better yield rates.
Upazila Agriculture officer Golam Mustafa said the farmers have mostly cultivated high yielding varieties of mustard like ‘Tori 7’, BARI-9, BARI-14, BARI-15, BINA-4 and other varieties of the oilseed on more lands.
To make the extensive mustard cultivation programme successful this season, the DAE and other agriculture related departments and banks extended necessary assistance to the farmers of the region.
Besides, the government distributed mustard seed and necessary fertilizers free of cost as incentives among small and marginal farmers of the region to cultivate mustard on one bigha of land each this season.
