High speed external Telecommunication Network Project at Rooppur Power Station approved

The high-speed external Telecommunication Network at the under construction Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant at Ishwardi has been approved. A meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on March 22 decided to implement the project at a cost of Tk 378.84 cr. The project will be implemented by Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) at the initiative of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant to provide state-of-the-art high speed dedicated external telecommunication network for Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and provide modern telephone high speed internet service to offsite and other related installations of power plant, Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and related ministries Arrangements will be confirmed.
The main activities of the project are: Compensation for 370 km road cut, eight years advance management and maintenance cost, management cost of optical fiber lease (railway, PGCB, BTCL, satellite channel lease), purchase of local and foreign consulting services, purchase of telecommunication equipment, Overseas and local training and hire of 8 motor vehicles and purchase of 3 motor vehicles.

In order to keep in touch with the concerned local and foreign stakeholders during normal operation and in case of emergency in any situation. That is why this sophisticated communication or retarded communication system is being introduced. There will be dedicated telecommunication, radio link, satellite link and mobile link.
Besides, economic communication will be established in 19 surrounding districts around Rooppur project. Stating that this is an international arrangement in power plant management, he said that through this PGCBL would acquire the capability of modern telecommunication system.
Where pictures, information, speeches, audio, video can be sent instantly. There will be a dedicated line from Rooppur, which will have the capacity of all modern telecommunications in the developed world. This technology will open the door to new generation telecommunication 3G connectivity. This is the dream of Hon’ble Prime Minister and BTCL. Shawkat said that the first implementation is in Rooppur of Ishwardi.
Mosammat Nasima Begum, Member (Secretary) of the Planning Commission’s Socio-Economic Infrastructure Division, said the project would play a significant role in increasing the productivity of the country as a partner project of the main project. Through which it will be possible to have uninterrupted communication between Rooppur and the concerned ministries and agencies.
