A New Jersey high school football player died after he was hurt in a game on Friday night, school officials confirmed on Saturday.
Quarterback Evan Murray, a three-sport star at Warren Hills Regional High School died after being injured during a game in Washington, New Jersey.
In a statement released Saturday, interim Superintendent Gary Bowen said the school community was “deeply saddened” but did not elaborate on the nature of Murray’s injury.
He said the cause of death had not yet been determined.
Murray, 17, was a high school senior in his third season as his team’s starting quarterback. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and the NFL’s New York Jets-who play their home games in East Rutherford, New Jersey-were among those who offered condolences via social media on Saturday.
