In the wake of some recent petrol bomb charges reportedly from the tops of city buildings, the government has
decided to ask the owners of high-rise buildings in the capital to install close-circuit (CC) cameras.
Talking to reporters after a meeting with top officials of different law enforcement agencies at the Secretariat, State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan said it has been decided in the meeting that the Home Ministry will ask the owners of city scrappers to install CC cameras so that no untoward incidents can be carried out in the surrounding areas.
The meeting was held to discuss the security measures ahead of the celebrations of the Independence Day on March 26.
It has been noticed in recent times that several crude bombs were tossed using building tops, he noted.
If the owners of the high-rise buildings fail to install the CC cameras, they will be held responsible if any untoward incidents take place in front of their buildings, he warned.
Asked whether the owners of high-rise buildings will require the installation of CC cameras only ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, the junior minister replied in the negative and added that the provisions will be made for ensuring the overall security in the capital against untoward incidents.
Besides, the entire capital will gradually be brought under the surveillance of CC cameras, he added.
Asaduzzaman also noted that the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have already separately made an assessment of the number of high-rise buildings in the capital requiring the CC cameras.
