A fire broke out inside a multi-storey commercial-cum-residential building in the city’s Shantinagar area early Wednesday.
Sources at the fire service headquarters control room said the fire erupted at flat no. A4 on the 10th floor of the residential section of the 22-storey Twin Towers Concord Shopping Complex around 1:00 am.
Residents of the building, most of whom were in deep sleep, woke up amid panic and rushed out to the streets for safety.
Being informed, eight firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the blaze around 2:40 am, said Warehouse Inspector Ataur Rahman of the headquarters.
He said 5-6 people received minor injuries due to suffocation and they were sent to hospital.
However, the reason behind the incident could not be known immediately as it was under investigation, the sources added.
