BSS, Rangpur :
The sale of sacrificial animals finally reached at the peak yesterday despite comparatively higher price everywhere in the cattle markets of Rangpur division, only two day ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha.
According to the market and local sources, supply of sacrificial animals increased further since yesterday despite no import of the same and restriction on selling of those animals fattened adopting unauthorised manners.
The boost in the local animal husbandry sector has caused adequate supply of better quality cattle heads both in the rural and urban areas this year reducing dependence on the imported ones from the neighbouring country.
Though most of the people have already purchased sacrificial animals, many of the others have been rushing to the cattle markets yesterday in Rangpur, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Gaibandha, Kurigram, Panchagarh and Thakurgaon districts.
As a result, last moment huge sale of cattle heads has triggered price of bullocks, calves, cows, buffaloes and goats despite huge supply even after sending thousands of sacrificial animals to Dhaka and other places during the past few days.
According to sources in the bigger cattle markets, the cattle-rearing people are getting better price of their reared bullocks, calves, cows, goats and buffaloes in comparison with the prices last year.
Meanwhile, the animal traders are now not showing interest in sending their locally purchased cattle heads to the capital city and other parts of the country from yesterday as price of the same is better now in the region despite huge supply.
Animal traders Imroz Hossain Mona, Istiaque Ahamed and Junayed Ali at Lalbag cattle market in the city said the supply further increased yesterday than the demand in the market where most cattle heads are being sold at better prices.
Sources at Kawnia, Pirgachha, Badarganj, Nishbetganj, Taraganj, Mithapukur and other bigger markets of Rangpur said price of the bigger bulls are higher by Taka 5,000 to Taka 15,000 on an average this time than last year.
Farmer Ali Hossain Bakul said he expected to sell his bull at Taka 50,000, but one buyer purchased it at Taka 60,000 and Suruz Ali sold his bullock at Taka 38,000, higher by Taka 5,000 of his expectation yesterday.
The sellers are being found comparatively happier as the buyers prefer to purchase the locally reared healthier bullocks more than the artificially fattened animals despite higher prices.
According to market sources, price of the sacrificial animals might mark fall today as the buyers are trying to complete their purchase by yesterday amid huge supply, mainly of the locally reared bullocks, calves, cows and buffaloes.
The sources said an extra large bull was being sold yesterday at rates between Taka 50,000 to 65,000 against last years’ Taka 42,000 to 55,000 and large one at Taka 40,000 to 48,000 against last year’s Taka 35,000 to 40,000.
