High fever common among city children IEDCR for early diagnosis

Fever, cough and other cold related illness are on rise among the children.
Parents of the affected children said that they had found an extra ordinary nature of fever surprisingly.
“Two of my children have been suffering from fever for six days. After treatment they seemed to have recovered, but within a day, the fever struck back. Side by side, cough has added extra sufferings,” said, Fahima Yasmeen from the capital’s Jatrabari area on Tuesday.
She said, firstly they took it for dengue fever but after sample testing the report showed that it was seasonal flue.
Physicians and officials of Dhaka Shishu Hospital said, rush of child patients had increased in last two weeks.
Huge rush of patients were found at outdoor emergency unit on Tuesday.
The guardians of those child patients said that most of them suffered from cold related sickness and fever.
Physicians of the hospital said that nine to 10 children were taking admission on the hospital everyday seeking medical treatment of pneumonia and such diseases.
Most of the children are below one year old, said the physicians.
Dr. Rizwanul Islam, Residential Medical Officer of the hospital said, among the children patients coming to the Dhaka
Shishu Hospital, were suffering from cold fever for more than two weeks.
The increasing numbers of such patients are sufferings from cold related problems, cough and fever, said the physician.
Parents also said that the children suffered more days from cough after recovering from fever and even taking medicines also.
When contacted, public health expert, former Deputy Director of BSMMU Dr. Mukhles Uzzaman Hero told The New Nation on Tuesday, “Fever and cold related complexity are on rise among the children in the recent days. Weather change, seek and hide attitude of the hot and cold weather are playing a vital role behind the children’s suffering from fever in recent times.”
He said, we have witnessed a rough weather now. It is very hot at day time and first hours of the night. But it is slightly cold in the late night.
Besides, drizzling has not ended yet. Frequent drizzling create slight cold environment.
In these circumstances, the tender aged children become victimized of the harsh weather, he added.
When contacted, Tahmina Shirin, Director of the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) told The New Nation on Tuesday, “The changing trend of the weather is the major reason behind sudden rise of the fever among the children.”
Some of the children may have attacked by the typhoid if they were tested negative of covid-19 or dengue, she added.
She asked all parents for early diagnosis of their children if found fever infections.
“It would not be wise to delay from taking of at least pediatric specialist soon after found the children illness or fever at this time,” she said.
