Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Benazir Ahmed has said that any vehicles carrying skin of sacrificial animals will not be allowed to leave the capital until three days after the Eid-ul Azha in a bid to prevent smuggling of raw hides.
However, there will be no bar to passage of animal hides into Dhaka from other parts of the country, the commissioner said while briefing reporters at the DMP Media Centre at Minto Road in the city on Sunday.
Benazir also said that all-out security measure would be beefed up across the capital ahead of Durga Puja and Eid-ul-Azha. The Dashami of Durga Puja is slated for October 4, while the Eid on October 6. The law-enforcing agencies would install check-post at all exit points in the capital, he said. He said the DMP has decided to clamp down on passage of the animal skin from the capital from the Eid-day to till October 9.
The DMP commissioner urged the cattle traders to hang banner in front of their vehicles, including trucks, so that the law enforcing agencies can help them to reach to the targeted hats in the capital. He said that fake note detecting machines would be installed in all cattle markets to check fake notes as there is a possibility to spread fake notes in the cattle hats.
Benazir said that additional police force would be deployed at shopping malls, banks and big markets areas ahead of the two prime religious festivals.
He also urged the city dwellers to leave Dhaka in phases to spend Eid holidays with their near and dear ones. “We do not have sufficient road infrastructures to manage the rush of thousands of people at a time.
So I request the home-bound people to leave the capital for Eid holidays in phases,” Benazir said.
He also said police will remain vigilant for ensuring security of the empty houses, banks, hospitals and other institutions during the vacation.
